A special meeting scheduled for Thursday, April 25, will focus on air quality issues, drawing together town and county public officials as well as representatives from the Department of Environmental Quality and Environmental Protection Agency.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and will be held at Lakeview’s Town Hall, located at 525 N. 1st St.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss varied topics surrounding local air quality concerns, standards surrounding regulatory procedures and the process of meeting attainment.
A draft agenda for the meeting indicated discussion on standards surrounding particulate matter emissions as well as the Town’s participation in the PM Advance program.
This program affords the Town an opportunity to defer formal non-attainment status by engaging in the development of programs aimed at improving local air quality.
Questions include the process surrounding the designation of Lakeview as a non-attainment area.
The group is also slated to discuss existing air quality programs in place on the local level. Consideration for naturally-occurring events, such as the extreme weather conditions of this past January, are also slated for discussion.
Earlier this year, weather conditions saw temperatures reach subzero levels for extended periods of time. Coupled with a lack of wind, air quality conditions suffered stagnation for multiple weeks.
