Archers have chance to shoot for turkeys

Five archery marksmen walked away with gift cards for turkeys from Safeway on Saturday, Nov. 16 after a variety of competitive events at the Lakeview Bowmen’s Club’s archery range.

Thirty-two shooters competed, with a number of others showing up to watch.

Four-H members sold hamburgers and other food items for lunch or snacks, while the competitors worked up an appetite with a tube shoot, card shoot, ping pong shot, kid’s balloon shoot a speed shoot.

The events ran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., starting out with a test of timing where archers had to shoot through a spinning PVC tube, which was ultimately won by Steve Pardue.

Larry Lucas was the lucky one who scored in the card game that became the second event of the day.

Rupert Rez won his turkey gift card in the ping pong shoot, just in time for Thanksgiving.

A younger member of the group, Chris Bennington, competed with other kids, winning a balloon popping competition for his turkey.

The final event came down to whoever could loose the most arrows accurately in 15 seconds.

Tracy McLain claimed the speed shoot gift card as his prize for the day.
