Arllow J. Goehring

Arllow J. Goehring, 78, died peacefully on Monday, March 25, 2013 at his home in Union, Wash.
Arllow was born to Aaron and Eleanora Goehring on Oct. 29, 1934 in Fredonia, N.D.
Arllow’s life was full and rich with experiences. After completing elementary and high school in North Dakota schools, Arllow joined the army that included a tour of duty in Germany. Upon completion of his military service Arllow attended the University of North Dakota and graduated with a degree in geology. Following graduation he moved to South Dakota and worked for the Geological Survey. While in South Dakota Arllow met Patsy (Miller) Gilbertson and in 1963 they were married in Mitchell, S. D.
In 1964 Lakeview became their home upon the purchase of the Lakeview Lodge Motel in partnership with his parents, Aaron and Eleanora. In addition to the business of operating the Lakeview Lodge, Arllow also worked for the U. S. Forest Service, on the Fremont National Forest.
Arllow was an active member of Lakeview’s Chamber of Commerce, Elk’s Lodge and the Lion’s Club. Early in his years in Lake County Arllow became a life long member of the Order of the Antelope, eventually holding the position of Chief Whitetail in 1994. After the sale of the Lakeview Lodge Motel, and following his retirement from the U.S. Forest Service, Arllow and Patsy purchased the Plush West restaurant.
Arllow was an avid outdoorsman, hard-working businessman, geologist, a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He loved Lake County, the high desert and especially Hart Mountain. Arllow spent many hours bird hunting with his German Shorthairs, fishing the rivers and lakes, deer hunting and camping.
His wife, Patricia Ruth Goehring, preceded Arllow in death on Jan. 18, 2009.
Arllow is survived by his children and families: Patrick and Kim Goehring and children, Macy and Cabe; David and Ginny Gilbertson and their children Valery and Mark McBride and grandchildren Avery and Kellen, Sarah Andersch and grandchild Harper and Lauren Gilbertson. Virginia and Regi Christensen and their children Olivia and Beau Variel and grandchild Nora, Abilene and Zeke Lyons and grandchildren Levi and Saylor; sister Elene Smith; sisters-in-law Berdeena Johnson and Diane Larson. Numerous parts of his family are in California, North Dakota, Wisconsin and Virginia. Arllow leaves behind many friends from Oregon, Washington and South Dakota.
There will not be a service. However, contributions in Arllow’s memory can be made to the Order of the Antelope Foundation, c/o Larry Utley, P.O. 1071, Lakeview 97630.
