Bernard Daly Scholarship Winners

At the annual meeting of the Bernard Daly Educational Fund trustees, which was held on Saturday, June 22, the Trustees selected students for the Bernard Daly Educational Fund, the Amy Heryford Ousley and the James Heryford Ousley Educational Fund.

The Trustees selected 25 students from the 2013 graduating high school class. Of the graduates selected, five are from North Lake, including Joshua Hand, Conley Kittredge, Bradley Libolt, Kerri Waldron and David Ward.

There were three students selected from Paisley, including Adam Arrington, Whitley Negus and Theresa O’Leary.

The remaining 17 selected were from Lakeview, including Kayla Albertson, Mandi Brooks, Sandra Castro, Cody Clemens, Teona Cobian, Davis Collins, Addie Engelhart, Darci Frederick, Samantha Gallagher, Elizabeth Helling, Sierra Koefoed, Jessie Nicholl, Kayla Parker, Joley Powell, Stacey Van Nes, Kelton Van Hoesen and Ridgley Williams.

Since the first selectees were chosen in 1922, the Daly Fund has now appointed 1,828 students to receive money from the Fund.

The amount of the stipend for undergraduate students on either fund was increased from $7,800 to $8,400 per school year.

In addition, the Board of Trustees, acting as the selection committee for the Burt K. Snyder Educational Foundation, reappointed Kelsie Flynn, who is currently pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy degree at Oregon State University, and Katelyn Hollars, who is pursuing a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at Oregon State University College of Veterinary Medicine. The two will receive $8,400 for the upcoming school year.

The officers voted in next year are Melinda Howard, chair, Mike Sabin, vice chair, David M. Vandenberg, secretary-treasurer, Ann Tracy and Alan Parks, trustees. Julie Albertson is the administrative assistant.

Others attending the annual meeting were Joseph P. Holliday, assistant vice chancellor for Student Success Initiatives at the Oregon University System, Justin Kribbs, manager of Student Debt Counseling and Financial Management program at Oregon Health and Science University, Michelle Holdway, Associate director and Coordinator of university scholarships from the University of Oregon, David Kobzina, senior admissions counselor from Portland State University,  Jessica Ormond, scholarship coordinator from Oregon Institute of Technology, Sean Gallagher, Lakeview school district superintendent, Lonnie Chavez, Lakeview High School counselor, Tami Johnson, Lakeview school district testing coordinator, Mike Jones, Paisley teacher, Jon Jones, Paisley school representative, Carol Dowsett, vice principal of North Lake School, James C. Lynch and Paul Harlan, Collins-McDonald trustees, and Dr. Franz Haun, representing the Selection Committee.
