“The girls are starting to peak,” said North Lake School volleyball coach Dan Ward, “They’ve been playing much better.”
The North Lake team played three games over the past week, Tuesday, Oct. 15, against the Paisley Broncos, Friday, Oct. 18, against a team from Gilchrist, and Saturday, Oct. 19, against the girls from Trinity Lutheran School.
The first two matches, they won 3 to 2 and 3 to 1, losing 0 to 3 against Trinity.
Paisley won the first two games of their match, scoring 25 points to North Lake’s 18 in the first and 25 to 22 in the second. North Lake took the next three games to win the match though, scoring 25-13, 25-13 and 15-12.
“If we play like that all the time, we’ll beat middle of the road teams easily,” said Ward of his team.
Though the Gilchrist Grizzlies originally beat the Cowgirls earlier in the season on North Lake’s home court, traveling to Gilchrist turned out well for North Lake this time. The Cowgirls won in four games, scoring 26 to 24 and 25 to 23 in the first two, losing the third 21-25, and winning the fourth 25-23.
“They’re a pretty scrappy team,” said Ward of the Gilchrist girls. North Lake lost to Trinity Lutheran for the second time this season in their Saturday game, but Ward thought the girls really competed this time.
