According to Christmas Valley’s Terry Crawford, the people of the town came out to witness their annual light parade and tree lighting in the coldest weather of nearly 40 years.
The parade took place on Saturday, Dec. 7, with lows measured from -29 to -38.5 degrees registered during the night. The lighted floats ended their journey through the cold in R. E. Floweree Memorial Park, with caroling by the North Lake School choir and a tree lighting ceremony.
Prizes were awarded for most lights, judge’s choice, best individual float and best commercial float. The most lights award went to an entry from Christmas Valley Market of a carousel with Santa Claus in the center, while a spinning Christmas present from SS Equipment won judge’s choice.
The Mace family won the best individual award for their float, with best commercial going to North Lake Tire. North Lake Towing came in second for the commercial division.
