Clara Elfrieda Beer

Clara Elfrieda Beer, nee Buhl, passed away Friday, Aug. 5, 2011
She was born Oct. 3, 1922 to Arvilla D. Cannon Buhl and Emil Gust Buhl on the Webber Ranch in Alturas, Calif.
She was raised in New Pine Creek and graduated from Lakeview High School in 1940. She moved to Medford the day following graduation to attend Medford Beauty School on a scholarship.
She married Hubert Donald Beer in Medford on May 3, 1941.
In the 1950s she worked packing pears for Rogue River Orchards and in 1962-1963, she attended Licensed Practical Nursing School and worked at R.V.M.C. She was in the second registered nurse class at Southern Oregon College (now Southern Oregon University) and received her nursing degree in 1971. She worked the rest of her professional career on the medical floor at R.V.M.C., retiring at the end of 1987. Following retirement she volunteered for the Red Cross.
Clara belonged to the Avon Bottle Collector’s Club in the 1980s and enjoyed collecting white hobnail glass. She loved “Gone with the Wind” memorabilia. Her greatest joy was her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; granddaughter Monica I. Beer; sister Mildred A. DeShazer.
Clara is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Rtd. Navy Lt. Bill Eugene and Freda Beer of Creswell and Douglas Scott and Penny Beer of Medford; daughter Barbara Beer Atkins; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
A family graveside service was held at Siskiyou Memorial Park.
