Clayton Eugene (Gene) Hollingshead, 81, died at his Lakeview home Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011.
Gene was born July 6, 1930 in Concord, Calif. to Thomas Clayton and Phoebe Jane Hollingshead.
Gene was raised and educated in San Bernadino, Calif. where he graduated from high school. Gene joined the US Airforce in l948 and served two years in Guam and Okinawa during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1952.
Gene came to Lakeview after spending many years in the Bay area. He met and later married Rae Jean Austin May 6, 1972 in Reno, Nev.
The couple lived in Lakeview where Gene worked as a dispatcher for 911 and retired from that position and as a volunteer fireman in l992. Following his retirement he and Rae Jean worked as camp hosts at state parks on the coast for five years.
He was a life member of the Eagles and the American Legion, member of the VFW, Elk’s and the NRA.
Gene was preceded in death by one son; one stepsister.
Survivors include his wife Rae Jean; son Michael Hollingshead; daughters Nancy and Pamela Hollingshead; stepsons Kirk and Ronnie Garner; stepdaughters Leota Garner and Julie Jackson; two stepsisters; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Lakeview Elk’s Lodge on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. The interment will follow at the family plot at the Sunset Cemetery with the Layne Clifton VFW Post 4070 conducting.
A potluck luncheon for family and friends will be served at the mobile at the Assembly of God Church following the interment.
