Forest Service officials announced on Monday, May 13, that the South Central Oregon Interagency dispatch centers for Klamath Falls and Lakeview would be sited in Lakeview.
Klamath Falls Interagency Fire Center (KFIFC) and Lakeview Interagency Fire Centers will be consolidated into one facility that will be located in Lakeview, according to a May 13 press release.
The announcement was formally made at a special session of the Lake County Board of Commissioners.
Speaking on the matter was Lakeview District BLM Assoc. District Mgr. Heather Whitman and Lakeview District BLM/Fremont-Winema National Forest Interagency Staff Officer Joe Reinarz.
Whitman said that the decision marks the culmination of a discussion that’s been in the works for the past year and a half.
“The primary reason for doing it is the safety of our firefighters and the public,” she said.
Commissioner Dan Shoun voiced his support for the decision, noting that the consolidation’s local siting is positive news for the community.
“It’s incredibly good news for our community,” he said, “but I think the most important thing is it was the right thing to do.”
