Counterfeit bills reported in Lakeview

February 6, 2013 by

Town of Lakeview Police officials received a report of counterfeit funds circulating late last week.

Police Chief Jeff Kamp said that the department got word of local businesses that discovered receipt of fake $20 bills on Friday, Feb. 1. Kamp said that both of these bills had been recovered, and police officials have been in contact with local banks and businesses with warnings of the discovery.

The bills featured noticeable distinguishing characteristics. The paper on which they were printed was slick to the touch, Kamp said, and featured none of the watermarks traditionally found on paper currency. The ink utilized was also darker than that found on a standard bill, Kamp said, and the ink on one of the bills started to bleed through.
