Lake County’s Board of Commissioners recently approved a donation in the amount of $5,000 toward the renovation of the Town of Lakeview Municipal Swimming Pool.
The commissioners took the action during their Wednesday, April 3, regular business meeting after discussion of the issue. Town of Lakeview Mgr. Ray Simms recently approached the Lake County Board of Commissioners with a request for funding for the Town’s swimming pool restoration project a week earlier.
He told the commissioners that the project’s total cost was $375,000, and fundraising efforts at present are set on a goal of $90,000 for a match fund requirement of 20 percent for other grant funding opportunities.
Organizations that have committed funding to the project include the Lakeview Rotary, Lakeview Lions, Collins-McDonald, the Lake County Community Foundation, the local ‘Save Our Pool’ fund and the Town of Lakeview.
Commissioner Brad Winters noted that the county’s contribution would be factored in for the 2013/14 budget year.
“If they’re able to get this to a certified length an get swim meets here,” he said, “there would be an economic impact (locally).”
