Cover Oregon launch not without issues

Cover Oregon is a new program, meant to allow individuals and small businesses in Oregon to easily compare different health insurance options.

The program is mainly based around an online marketplace, with help also available through qualified agents and ‘assisters’ as well as via telephone.

The launch of the program’s website, coveroregon.com, was accompanied by a number of glitches, according to Lake County Public Health employees.  Some of those who work at the Public Health office in the Marius Building at 100 N. D St. are in the process of training to become assisters.

They also commented that, as of Wednesday, Oct. 2, only assistants and insurance agents can enroll people and businesses in insurance through the Cover Oregon program.  The website does, however, list qualified agents around Lakeview, including employees of Nolte-Fuller Insurance and Favell-Utley Corporation.

Enrollment is the only part of the program active at the moment, with insurance coverage slated to begin on Jan. 1, 2014.

Informational materials released for Cover Oregon promise quality coverage even for those with pre-existing conditions, affordable health insurance, financial help to pay for health insurance, easy comparisons between coverage options and insurance for small businesses with 50 or fewer employees.
