North Lake Cowboys placed Hosanna Christian on Friday, at the Lion’s Den. The Cowboys were only down by nine points going into the second half, however a surge of 40 points in the second half, the Cowboys weren’t able to “dig themselves out of the hole,” commented head Coach Brian Baker.
Coming into the game Baker said he thought these were two games that were very winnable. The first halves of both of these games were played well, however they were unable to continue with the momentum after half time.
Ethan Murphy was the top scorer for the Cowboys scoring 14 points and contributing 9 rebounds. Nathan Gilbert scored 11 points with six rebounds and Cameron McCord scored 10 points with two rebounds.
“Fouls really hurt us in this game,” commented Baker, who had to revamp his game due to foul trouble, and the one player who was having a good night was sat on the bench, to avoid fouling out. “They had two guys who had a very good night, and we weren’t able to contain them as well as I would have liked,” said Baker.
On Saturday, Feb. 1, against Gilchrist, Daniel Libolt was top scorer with 17 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two assists. Cameron McCord had 14 points and contributing six rebounds. Coach Baker is keeping positive for the running for the league championships. When ranks were published Thursday, the Cowboys were ranked third in the Mountain Valley League. “If we can win a few more games down the stretch, we might play them (Gilchrist) again in a play off game,” finished Baker. The North Lake Cowboys will play Rouge Valley Adventist on Friday, Feb. 7 at 12:30 p.m.
