Cowboys suffer two defeats at Bend weekend tournament

North Lake’s boy’s basketball team joined their girl’s basketball counterparts at the Bend Holiday Hoops Classic tournament over the weekend, Friday and Saturday Dec. 27 and 28.

The boys lost both their games, playing the Bend High School freshmen team on Friday, scoring 37-52, and facing the Mountain View freshmen on Saturday, scoring  38-60.

The head coach for the North Lake team, Brian Baker, said they didn’t score well on Friday, but were also missing one of their point guards.

“Our one point guard, Nathan Gilbert, did a good job but needed help,” said the coach.

“The guys did okay, but we kinda got out of running the offense like we should,” he added.  “That kind of hurt us, but we’re still young, and we’re still working.”

Baker said that their second game of the weekend was close the 4th quarter, when both Ethan Murphy and Cameron McCord were fouled out.

“We lost a lot of offense and rebounding, and Mountain View had a big fourth quarter,” stated Baker.

He also commented that the Mountain View team was pretty quick, managing a full court press on North Lake for the whole game.

“We had too many turnovers, which kinda killed us,” said Baker.
