Stephen Cox, Sr., was sentenced to 43 years and 9 months imprisonment with the state Department of Corrections last week.
Judge Lane Simpson presided over the hearing, at which time the sentencing addressed 13 felony charges upon which a Lake County Grand Jury convicted Cox following a trial in late August.
The grand jury issued its conviction on Friday, Aug. 23. Both current District Attorney Ulys Stapleton and former District Attorney David Schutt prosecuted the case.
The charges included rape, sodomy and sexual abuse, for which Cox had been previously convicted in 2009, but the conviction was overturned by the Court of Appeals. The case returned to Lake County in 2012, with the trial held in the latter part of last month at the Lake County Circuit Court.
Cox’s conviction stemmed from charges that he’d sexually molested his step-grandchildren over the course of several years, beginning when they were both under 12 years of age, according to a press release issued by the Lake County District Attorney’s office.
