Derek Douglas McKeon, 47, died in Lakeview on Saturday, March 30, 2013.
He was born to Charles and Nickie (Peters) McKeon on June 19, 1965 in El Monte, Calif.
Derek grew up in Grants Pass where he graduated from high school and attended Rogue Valley Community College and became a certified Emergency Medical Technician. During most of his working years, he followed his chosen trade of being a Journeyman Commercial Carpenter. He enjoyed working with wood and was very good at his trade which took him to Las Vegas, Nev. for a number of years before settling in Lakeview in 2000.
Besides woodworking, he enjoyed working on computers, collecting coins and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles.
Derek is survived by his mother and step-father Nickie and David Halter of Lakeview; daughters Aimee Cavin of Medford, Amber Cavin of Medford, Brittney Conner of Fort Sills, Okla., Patricia Hans of Barstow, Calif., Stephanie Conners of Phoenix, Ariz., Kayla Jones of Lakeview, Susan McKeon of Lakeview and Nicole McKeon of Lakeview; brother Danny McKeon of Creswell; grandchildren James Byers, Kailey Jones and Jayden Jones; a large extended family.
A graveside service was held on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at the New Pine Creek Cemetery.
Contributions in Derek’s memory may be made to the St. Judes Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, Tenn. 38105 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Desert Rose Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
