Dorothy Ella Shullanberger

Dorothy Ella Shullanberger, 96, died peacefully, Saturday, July 28, 2012 at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend with her family by her side.
Dorothy was born in Eddyville, Neb., on March 2, 1916, the youngest of nine children to Oliver and Ella Smith.  She grew up in Nebraska and moved to Ventura, Calif. after graduating from high School.  After attending Ventura Junior College, Dorothy married Orla Shullanberger in 1938.  Linda and Don were born in Ventura and in 1946 the family moved to Lakeview and started ranching on the Westside, where Steve and Mary were born.
Dorothy was an accomplished homemaker who also enjoyed singing in church, painting, reading, sewing, teaching 4-H and as a long-time member of the Lakeview Garden Club.
Her holiday meals were famous for her “prepared from scratch” delicious breads, cakes, pies and main dishes.
Orla preceded her in death in 1994.
Life-long friends who preceded her in death are Zelma Reed, Coral Hill, Louise Oakley, June Clark, Maxine Hotchkiss, Peggy Weir and Arlene Gooding.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Don and Mary Shullanberger and Rev. Steve and Ginger Shullanberger; daughters and sons-in-law Linda and Jim Lawrence and Mary and Ron Butler; grandchildren Mike Thomas, Carol David, Sheila Dickson, Barry Shullanberger, Danne’ Hampton, Phil Shullanberger, Chelsea Shullanberger, Charlie Shullanberger, Jason Butler, Nick Butler, Brittney Montgomery and Stacey Montgomery; 13 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Lakeview on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Rich Landrith officiating.
Contributions in Dorothy’s memory can be made to the Lake County Library Building Fund, 513 Center St.t, Lakeview 97630 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
