To help convenience local building contractors, Lake County Building and Planning department will be offering permitting online.
The online permitting will not change pricings for the contractor in any way but will help streamline the processes between contractors and the department. If those who wish to take the tried and true method of coming down to the county courthouse to fill out the required paperwork, they are still free to do so. The permits filed this way will find their way on the online database making tracking individual permits less of a burden for the Building department.
The e-commerce service being utilized, Virtual Merchant, will have an additional surcharge of 2.75 percent that will be applied but will be paid through county funds.
The program is fully online so that no additional server space is needed and will enable contractors to access their permits and mapping out in the field via computer or tablet.
A portion of the state surcharges will fund mechanical, plumbing and electrical permits. These make up 12 percent of every permit sold and paid by the customer.
Eight of Oregon’s counties are currently on full ePermitting with seven more in the process to be functioning by the end of the year.
The Building department’s goal is to be live on ePermitting in 2015.
