Those interested in filing for candidacy in this year’s May 20 primary election must file the necessary paperwork by Tuesday, March 11, at the Lake County Clerk’s Office.
Candidates that have filed thus far include incumbent Lake County commissioners Ken Kestner and Dan Shoun, as well as the incumbent Lake County Sheriff Phil McDonald. Lucinda Nolan filed as a challenger to Kestner, while Mike Taylor has filed his candidacy for the Lake County sheriff position.
The last date for voter registration is April 29, and ballots will be mailed out on April 30.
Ballot boxes will be set up at the Christmas Valley and Paisley community centers, and picked up by a Lake County Sheriff’s Department deputy at 8 p.m. on the primary election night. Similarly, a ballot box will be available for drop-off of ballots until 8 p.m. at the Lake County Clerk’s Office.
The Lake County Sheriff position is generally decided in the fall general election, said County Clerk Stacie Geaney. With only two candidates filed to date, the position will be decided in the fall election. Should a third candidate file for the primary election, Geaney said that the top two candidates would be decided in the primary, which would then advance to the fall election.
