In Mr. Staniak’s letter he acknowledges comments on his evaluation forms but fails to mention the areas that needed to improve. He refers to the comments as “Doodle notes” and went on to cherry pick some trivial comments to refute.
I think it’s wonderful that he now recognizes these forms do exist and are real. In the Desert Whisper, Staniak’s letter posed the question, “What, then, were some of the allegations of poor performance that the board has made to try to justify its position to non-renew my contract?” The answers are in the Minutes of the December 2012 board meetings and records contained in Staniaks personnel file. December 2012 Meeting Minutes; Clayton Sharp “…trust in Superintendent Staniak has dissolved.”, “…Staniak will not accept or ignores board directives;” and “Test scores have not improved”, Buck Church “…Staniak does not take direction well.” “He is slow to implement board directives and does not keep board informed.”
On the evaluation forms the following items were scored as “Below Target Needs Improvement”: 1) Prepare information for board and other meetings. 2) Keep board members informed of district matters as needed… 3) Communicate effectively and work cooperatively with board members 4) Respond to board requests.
These items continually (allegedly) scored Below Target on the evaluations over the last year. Staniak quoted from one of Buck Church’s evaluation copies, “In general some areas are exceptional and the majority are right on target. A few areas need improvement, which with board direction should be improved.”.
I believe the last part of Buck’s comment is in reference to the four areas of concern mentioned above. I encourage the community to do a public records request for Staniak’s file and board meeting minutes to review the facts for yourself.
