Evelyn Annie Grindstaff, 93, died at the Lake District Long Term Care Facility on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009 from natural causes.
Evelyn was born to Albert and Florence (Currin) Branch in Lakeview on Jan. 29, 1916 while the family lived at Clover Flat. She attended schools at Valley Falls, Crooked Creek, Vernon School and graduated from Lakeview High School in 1934.
Evelyn married Ray Grindstaff on July 25, 1936 at Lakeview. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Burns and later to New Bieber, Calif. where she worked in a restaurant and after returning to Lakeview she worked for the phone company for a number of years. Her true career was being a mother and dedicated housewife.
She was a very kind person and kept herself busy helping others. She put in many years as a volunteer with the Lakeview Opportunity Shop. Her favorite place to go was the Lakeview Senior Center and her favorite pastime was playing bingo.
She was a long time member of the Lakeview Trinity Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by husband Ray; son Chuck; brothers Adrian and Floyd Branch; sisters Mildred Garrett and Persis Grisel and her very special niece, Rhea VanDenBerg.
Evelyn is survived by son and daughter-in-law Glen and Polly Grindstaff of Wilder, Idaho; son LeRoy Grindstaff of Lakeview; grandchildren and spouses Larry and Tammie Grindstaff of Adrian, Idaho, Jackie and Greg Allen of Burns, Kristi and Shane Wallace of Sand Hollow, Idaho and Robin Mona Smith of Buffalo, Wyo.; great-grandchildren Angie, Shelley, Austin, Zachary, Jeremy, Dezire and Mandy; Two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009 at 1 p.m. at the Trinity Baptist Church. A potluck dinner will be served in the church fellowship hall following the committal in the Sunset Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Desert Rose Funeral Chapel.
