Lacey Ringulet, owner of A Country Home Floral, stands with an example of what she hopes to teach in her flower arranging demonstration at this year’s Lake County Expo.
Some of the main draws of the annual Lake County Expo are the demonstrations that local business owners and professionals hold to exhibit their craft. It gives attendees a look behind the curtain of what it takes to maintain a successful business as well as provides some like education they can take with them.
Bringing her knowledge of home décor and floral arts, A Country Home Floral owner Lacey Ringulet will give a demonstration of flower arranging to those that want to learn.
Buying the store in 2009, she said that she went into the business with limited knowledge. Arranging bouquets in FFA and 4H were the extent of her experience with the skill. However, Ringulet admitted that it came to her more easily than she expected.
“It came pretty natural,” she said. “I always liked it and always wanted to be an entrepreneur.”
She did not want to rely on the naturally earned talent alone. “I read a lot of books on flower arranging and took classes from Portland online,” she said. She also keeps her eye open whenever she visits another florist, ready to ask questions and learn new techniques where available.
It is a changing art and she continues to stay at the forefront, while still adding her own personal touch to the design. “My style is more free form, more country,” she said. “I go with whatever I think I would put on my table.”
For the demonstration itself, she has a number of beginning and intermediate tips she is eager to share. “I’d like to tell the different varieties of perennials and annuals that people can plant in their garden to always have a good arrangement available,” she said. And she will also go over the different line flowers, filler flowers, and greenery it takes to make an attractive piece.
“I will also cover care for already cut flowers, vase height and flower height,” she added, rounding out the list of information she will give.
