February Food Drive aims for 50,000 lbs

February 20, 2013 by

Lakeview High School’s FFA is teaming up with Les Schwab, the organization’s largest sponsor in the state, to coordinate an Oregon-wide food drive to benefit local food banks.

Throughout the month of February, there will be donation spots set up inside the lobby of Lakeview High School and in Les Schwab for people to come by and drop off canned goods or non-perishables for the effort. The public is welcome to visit Les Schwab at 422 N. F. St, while students can drop theirs off at the school.

Agriculture teacher Jennifer Henning said that it is the Oregon’s FFA’s goal to bring together 50,000 pounds of food at the end of the drive.

“All the food that’s generated will stay in local areas in which they were raised,” Henning said. On Friday, March 1, they will weigh the donated lot and add it to Oregon’s tally.

This drive is the first of its kind, but Henning said that it seemed that the FFA will want to continue the program in future years.
