Franklin “Ray” Blasingame

Franklin “Ray” Blasingame, 92,  of Paisley passed away at Meridian Care and Rehabilitation Center in Meridian, Idaho on Friday, April 8, 2011.
He was born July 11, 1918 in Timber Lake, S. D.
He and his family moved to California in 1938. Ray came to Lake County in 1939 to break horses for the MC Ranch at Adel and then the Chewaucan Land and Cattle Co. (known by all as the ZX) in Paisley.
He was drafted into the Army on Nov. 10, 1941. He then volunteered to join the 101st Airborne Division. He jumped in the invasion of Normandy (D-Day), earning a Bronze Star. He fought all across Europe with the 101st and was on the front lines of the “Battle of the Bulge”, near Bastonge, Belgium. After the Battle, he was awarded the Silver Star and the Purple Heart. After the war, he returned to a life of breaking horses in winter months and following the RCA rodeo circuit.
He married Sally Kane Blasingame on Dec. 21, 1953 living in California and Idaho and then moving back to Paisley in 1962 to finish raising his family.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; son Andy Blasingame; brother, Jack Blasingame; sister Melda Olday.
He is survived by his wife Sally of Hines ; son Bob Blasingame of Riley; daughter, Wilmette “Billie” Angus of Hines; grandsons Casey and Monty Angus of Fallon, Nev.; very special nephew, Don Olday and wife Gail of Sanger, Calif.;   numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Everyone who knew Ray knew he was an honorable, hard working, generous man and a truly entertaining personality.
Graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the Silver Lake Cemetery, Silver Lake, at 11 a.m. Followed by a Memorial Service and pot-luck at the Paisley Community Center starting at 3 p.m.
Contributions in Ray’s memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Desert Rose Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
