Gatling Gun among the display items for Gun Show

Going into its quarter-century year, the annual Lake County Fair Board Gun and Trade Show will take place April 12-13 at the Lake County Fairgrounds.

Many weapons will be available to buy, sell, or trade, as well as antique and modern firearms on display along with knives, coins, art, jewelry, and other collectibles.

One of the more unique items to appear at this year’s event will be a replica Civil War-era Gatling Gun, owned by Jim and Judy Cyr of Lakeview. The 601-pound behemoth is one of 249 manufactured in Broken Arrow, Okla., authentic to the tiniest detail to the actual Gatling Guns used during the Civil War.

“We saw Civil War re-enactors using six of them in a row on carriages so they could be moved around, and they used black powder for authenticity, the amount of smoke it created was just amazing,” said Jim Cyr.

The Cyr’s Gatling Gun has never been fired, though it is fully functional.

“If somebody wanted to clean all six barrels afterward, maybe we’d let them,” Cyr joked, explaining the reason why they have yet to fire the weapon.

The Gatling Gun surprisingly is not the prized item in the Cyr’s vast collection, some of which will be on display at the show. The most treasured item in their collection is a Henry Repeating Rifle used during the Civil War. The Cyr’s have traveled extensively to gun shows, including winning best display at a 2012 gun show in Cody, Wyo.

The Cyr’s won’t be the only ones displaying unique and rare weapons at the gun show, with many items available for sale or display. A 50/50 raffle will also be held on both days of the event. A gun transfer dealer will be available to complete background checks. No items that violate federal or state law will be permitted.

Display tables will be available for $25 each in advance, or $30 at the door. The fairgrounds include food, free parking, RV hookups, and security provided.

Admission is $4, or $3 with a trade gun. Kids 12 and under are free. The gun and trade show will be open on Saturday, April 12 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday April 13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Lake County Fairgrounds are located at 1900 N. 4th St. in Lakeview.
