Lake County School District #7 Business Manager Michael Getty is retiring after 28 years of service, effective July 1.
For nearly three decades Getty has steadily guided the financials of the school district through recessions and budget cuts, new projects and upgrades, somehow managing to make the numbers add up in a field where figures are very fluid.
Supt. Sean Gallagher made the official announcement of Getty’s intent to retire during the Monday, May 12 LCSD#7 board meeting.
“It is with distinct honor, respect, and regrets that I bring to you a letter of resignation from Michael Getty with intent to retire,” said Gallagher. “I’ll certainly be missing him, he’s been a huge part of the district for many years.”
Getty requested to be retained on staff through August, so as to guide finances for the district into the next school year while a full time replacement business manager is sought out.
Board members expressed their immense gratitude for Getty’s many years of service, even going so far as to ask what happens if they refuse to accept his retirement, before unanimously approving the request.
“It goes without saying, but we appreciate your years of service,” said LCSD#7 Chairman Peter Schreder. “It is with confidence that we have sat up here and had you present the budget and financials knowing it was in good hands,” he continued.
