August 6, 2011 by

Glenn William Harvey, 88, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011 due to natural causes in Corvallis.
Glenn was born July 7, 1923 to Beatrice and William Harvey, on his family’s ranch located at the southern end of Summer Lake.
Glenn lived and worked on the Harvey Ranch, taking over the operations after his Father’s death. Glenn attended school in Paisley, graduating in 1940. He attended Oregon State University completing a degree in range management. He was known in Lake County as an outstanding cattleman, being recognized locally and nationally for the quality of his cattle herd and his ranch management. He was active in the Oregon Cattleman’s Association. He was very active in the Lake County Round-up Association and was president of the Lake County Round-up in 1960. He was also active in the Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star. He was a member of the Lake County Chamber of Commerce.
He left bachelorhood in 1972, marrying Mildred Winchester Brattain. This marriage formed a strong partnership that would last until his death. Glenn gifted his ranch to Oregon State University in 1987. He continued to actively work on the ranch, yet took time to travel the world with Mildred. As OSU Alums, Glenn and Mildred would commute to Corvallis for home football and basketball games. Due to health concerns, Glenn and Mildred left the Harvey Ranch, moving to Corvallis, home to their beloved OSU Beavers, permanently in 2000. While living in Corvallis they regularly attended men’s football and men’s and women’s basketball games, as well as gymnastics and wrestling meets.
Glenn and Mildred have long been a part of the OSU family, loyal to both the Animal Sciences Department and Athletics. Glenn served on the ER Jackman Board of Directors (College of Agricultural Sciences) as well as the Harvey Ranch Board, after he and Mildred gifted their ranch to Oregon State.
Glenn was passionate about education. In addition to many outright gifts over the years, he and Mildred created four endowed scholarships at OSU, as well as an endowed professorship in Animal Sciences.
Glenn is survived by his wife Mildred and sister Alice Wedum of Carmichael, Calif.
Memorial gifts in Glenn’s name can be made payable to: The Paisley Disaster Unit, c/o Brenda Morgan, secretary, 40828 Clover Flat Rd., Paisley 97636 or the OSU Foundation in support of The Glenn and Mildred Harvey Educational Endowment Fund, and mailed to 850 SW 35th, Corvallis 97333.
