This past summer, two young children from Lakeview traveled to the Central Oregon PeeWee Rodeo Association(COPWRA) finals in Prineville on Sunday, Aug. 25. Savannah Greenfield, age 8, won her second Junior All-Around Cowgirl saddle, while Kaden Greefield, age 12, placed in the top ten in three events.
Savannah has been competing for five years in the Peewee competition, and won the year-end barrel racing title this year and placed second in pole bending and goat tying events, securing a sixth place spot in heeling and seventh place in breakaway roping.
Kaden placed fifth in senior boys heeling, sixth in breakaway and eighth in chute dogging. Savannah’s favorite events are barrel racing and pole bending, while Kaden most enjoys team roping and calf tying.
Savannah has been riding her 27-year-old gelding Payday for the barrels and poles, with both Greenfield children riding Blackie, a 21-year-old gelding for breakaway roping and Satan, a 22-year-old gelding for heeling, goat and calf tying.
Rodeo runs in the Greenfield family, mother Mesa Greenfield, a registered nurse for Lakeview Home Health & Hospice and Barrel Racing director for COPWRA competes in Barrel Racing. Father Shawn Greenfield is a professional Steer Wrestler in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA).
Kaden is currently in seventh grade this school year in Lakeview, with Savannah attending Fremont Hay Elementary in third grade.
