Lakeview senior Lane Hadley was named MVP of the inaugural Herald and News High School Hoops Classic held at Oregon Tech on Sunday, April 27.
Organized by Oregon Institute of Technology Women’s Basketball Coach Scott Meredith, the tournament featured 38 of the top high school seniors from the Klamath Basin, 18 boys and 20 girls, representing 12 basin schools.
Hadley led the way for Team Black in a 92-89 overtime victory, scoring 24 points on 9-12 shooting, and adding 13 rebounds. Oregon Tech players coached and refereed the games, with rosters intentionally split to place high school teammates on opposing sides to spur competition.
Hadley performed best when his team needed it the most, scoring seven points in overtime, including the game deciding three-pointer with 32 seconds remaining.
The MVP tournament honors complete a memorable senior year for Hadley, who was named LHS team MVP and the 3A Southern Cascade League Most Valuable Player at the conclusion of the 2013-14 high school basketball season.
Currently a sprinter for the LHS track and field team, Hadley preceded his MVP performance Sunday by setting a new personal record in the 100 meters at the Sterling/Lithia Invitational in Klamath Falls on Saturday prior to the all-star basketball tournament.
