A new staffer joined the ranks of the Lake County Examiner, with Lakeview local Dava Harrington hired as the newspaper’s newest advertising executive.
Harrington’s primary duties center around establishing and maintaining advertising accounts for local businesses for the Examiner’s varied publications and acting as an assistant to G.M. Tillie Flynn.
In addition to the newspaper, Harrington’s duties will also encompass the weekly shopper Wise Buys, the street sheet known as the Lakeview LowDown and numerous special editions.
The 2006 Lakeview High School graduate recalled working on the high school annual, which held a creative energy she relished. This component proved to be an attractive element to the opening at the Examiner.
“I like the creative side,” she said. “I like getting out and talking to people. I’m definitely my mother’s daughter in that aspect.”
She attended Eastern Oregon University for a couple of years, but returned home after turning up undecided on a major. At present, she is currently finishing an online paralegal program through Kaplan University.
In May of this year, she married husband Ian, a firefighter with the Oregon Department of Forestry.
Her previous work experience included firefighting for the ODF and also banking, Harrington said.
On staff with the Examiner since Wednesday, Oct. 30, Harrington said there has been a learning curve associated with the job but she’s eager to do the job to the best of her ability.
“It’s a lot of work, but it’s been great,” she said. “I’m staying busy, and I’m getting out there, talking to people, which is kind of nice.”
Harrington said that she’s gained an insight into the realm of the local business world through her new position.
Harrington said she’s learned there’s more businesses in the Lake County community than she initially realized.
“I’m excited to have Dava join the staff. We’re sorry to see Julia Ugalde leave but are certain Dava is up to the challenge,” said Flynn.
