On Tuesday, Feb. 11, the Lakeview Honkers traveled to Jacksonville to take on Cascade Christian Challengers. Lakeview trailed by four going into the second half however, their efforts came up short with the Challengers increasing it’s lead to double digits by the end of the third quarter.
“We had a good first half,” commented head coach Cody Blair, “we just kind of ran out of steam in the second half.”
Lane Hadley contributed 16 points and had six rebounds for the Honkers against Cascade Christian. Charles Harms added 11 points and five assists.
“It was a tough game, they are a strong team, and are League Champions. We played well and I think it was a closer game than the scoreboard showed,” said Blair.
After a neck and battle between the Lakeview Honkers and the Rogue River Chieftains, the Honkers pulled away in the fourth quarter Friday to claim a 52-40 Southern Cascade League win, which propelled the Honkers into league playoffs.
“We played good, but I know we could play better. There was a lot going on with senior night, though I was proud they were able to battle through,” said Blair. Lane Hadley and Jace Frank both contributed 16 points for the Honkers.
Lakeview will play at St. Mary’s at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m. in the first round of the SCL playoffs.
The two teams are tied second place in the league.
