On Wednesday, Feb. 19, the Lakeview Honkers traveled to Medford to play St. Mary’s to determine the seed place winner in league and a shot at state playoffs. Lakeview defeated St. Mary’s and earned their way to play Cascade Christian to determine the No. 1 seed out of the conference, heading into the state tournament.
In a close game, Lakeview was up by two going into half time. It was in the third quarter that Lakeview was able to gain the edge to put them in winning position over the Crusaders.
In the third quarter the Honkers managed to outscore the Crusaders by eight points giving them in the lead 42-32. Despite a 20 point effort in the fourth quarter St. Mary’s was unable to secure a lead, and the Honkers were victorious 60-52.
Lane Hadley led the Honkers, contributing 19 points. Logan Staub led the Honker on rebounds getting nine of the 32 Lakeview rebounds.
On Saturday, Feb. 22, the Honkers traveled to Medford to take on the Cascade Christian Challengers. The game determined who would advance to the state playoffs as first seed from the Southern Cascade League.
The Challengers prevailed over the Honkers in a 65-52 matchup. Lakeview was trailing in the end of the first period 24-7, and were down by 24 points at halftime. With 17 points in the third quarter and 16 in the fourth the Honkers managed to tighten the score, but efforts fell short in the final quarter. The Honkers lost to the Challengers 65-52.
Lane Hadley led the Honkers in scoring with 20 points and the only Lakeview player in double digits. Jace Frank and Charles Harms both contributed 3-point goals for the Honkers. Frank ended the game with a total of nine points.
The Honkers will advance to the state playoffs as the No. 2 seed from the SCL. The Honkers are scheduled to play Portland Adventist Academy on March 1 at 7 p.m. on the road.
