In the last week of play, the Lakeview High School boys basketball team was able to secure second in the league with the end of the season. Though they lost one and won another, they will move on in the post season with an air of confidence well deserved.
Their loss in the week came on Tuesday, Feb. 5, when they welcomed Cascade Christian to Honker Court. Though they hung tight with their opponents through most of the game, the Lakeview boys fell, 64-42.
“I thought we played tough, they just wore us down with their size,” said Head Coach Cody Blair. “It’s hard when there is a 6’6’’ guy in the middle, you don’t get a lot of second chances.”
Blair said it was definitely the tallest player they had met in the season, understanding that the Honkers were far more about speed than height.
On Friday, Feb. 8, they traveled to Rogue River to play against Rogue River. Though the Chieftains were in the middle of the league pack, Blair said it was their senior night and they played aggressive through the whole game. However, the Honkers surged ahead and ended up winning, 63-50.
Their first post game will have been played on Tuesday, Feb. 12 against St. Mary’s at home, with results unavailable at press time. Should they win, they will go on to play on Friday, Feb. 15 at Cascade Christian for the first or second seed to state.
