Lakeview boy’s soccer team lost to the Cascade Christian Challengers last week after double overtime with a score of 1-2, winning on Saturday 8-0 against Glide’s Wildcats.
The Cascade Christian game came down to a shootout after a 1-1 game, with no goals scored by either side in overtime.
All five of both team’s players scored for the first round of kicks, with the Lakeview’s sixth player getting blocked. Cascade Christian made a goal to carry the game.
“We were 1-0 at halftime,” Lakeview coach Jim Nicholl said. Tristan Witham scored the first goal on the 25th minute of the game with an assist by Joey Nicholl. Cascade scored on a free kick in the 70th minute of the game to even the score and send the game into overtime.
“We weren’t connecting passes,” said Nicholl, “We didn’t show up to play that day.”
The coach said the team has put themselves in a bind now, likely to have to travel some distance to face a strong team where bef“We played well,” Nicholl said. “The boys connected their passes, and played with confidence.” Their playoffs will be next Tuesday, Nov. 5, with the time/place TBA.
Nicholl hopes to pick up a game this week against a strong opponent, raising chances for LHS to host a playoff game.
