In a spectacular win, the Honker boys scored a big upset against St. Mary’s. In 56 to 53 closing to Tuesday’s , Feb. 4 skirmish, the Honkers boy’s team managed to hold off the Crusaders for a big win in front of the hometown crowd.
Gaining new purpose during the fourth quarter, the boy’s snatched the win from the jaws of defeat, more than doubling the Crusaders output during the forth quarter. Coach Cody Blair and team are still enjoying the win as they prepare for the next round on the way to the state championship – according to Blair.
This last match-up, Lakeview (7) outscored the Crusaders (2) in the 3-point range, and managed to hold even in fouls: personal fouls: St. Mary’s 13; Lakeview: 15; only one technical foul – Lakeview’s Rosenberry – with players from neither team fouling out.
This week, the Honkers face both Cascade Christian on Tuesday, Feb. 11 away, as well as hosting Rogue River on Friday, Feb. 14 – Senior Night – in an important skirmish that will decide ranking in the playoffs.
Coach Blair said, “We got past the last one, moved on and now we focus,” as he preps his team for one of the most important weeks of the season.
A win this week will determine the Honkers standing as they take on St. Mary’s once again entering the State’s annual contention for basketball honors.
