A steady lead brought the Honkers victory against the Cougars after Lakeview traveled to Illinois Valley High School this past Friday, Jan. 10.
The Lakeview boys scored 72-54, pulling ahead early on and triumphing despite a comeback of sorts by Illinois Valley toward the end.
According to their coach, Cody Blair, the boys pushed the ball well and shot well during the game.
“We’re starting to come together as a team,” said Blair.
So far, the team is 1-0 in league play and 3-7 overall. Blair believes they need to continue to work on team cohesiveness and pushing the tempo to continue to succeed.
For Lakeview, this game’s high scorers were Charles Harms and Landen Lampman, both scoring 15 points.
According to the coach many members of the team are capable of leading the team in scoring.
“On any night we can have a different leading scorer. We have 6-7 guys that could end up with 15-20 points any night,” said Blair.
The Lakeview boys play two games this week, against Chiloquin on Tuesday, Jan. 14 and against St. Mary’s, their second league game, on Friday, Jan. 17.
