Festivities celebrating Lakeview’s long-standing Irish heritage are slated for Friday, March 14, and Saturday, March 15, in the form of the 29th annual Irish Days celebration.
Things will kick off with a traditional corned beef and cabbage dinner prepared by the Soroptimists of Lakeview on the evening of Friday, March 14, at the Lakeview Elks Lodge, located at 323 N. 1st St. During the evening, the Grand and Wee Leprechauns will be announced. A Calcutta auction for the Outback Outhouse race teams will also be held during the evening.
The dinner features Les Schwab Tire Center and CenturyLink as corporate sponsors, and is planned by the Lake County Chamber of Commerce. O’Buttons will go on sale starting Wednesday, March 5.
The Mile High Striders’ ShamWalk/Run will kick off Saturday festivities, with a 5K course for both runners and walkers. The traditional Irish Days parade will begin downtown at 11 a.m. Entry forms are now available at the Chamber as well as online at www.lakecountychamber.org, and must be submitted no later than Tuesday, March 11.
Other Saturday activities will include a barbecue lunch (only $1 with an O’Button) at the Town of Lakeview Parking Lot and the Outback Outhouse races. Musical entertainment will be provided by the Uketopian Society, along with dancers from the Southern Oregon School of Dance.
A number of other traditional contests will also be held that day, along with children’s activities sponsored by the Lake County Library Teen Advisory Board at the main library branch building.
