J. Millis Flynn, 94, left his physical body on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011 to join his wife Margaret and son Larry in Heaven.
Millis was born in Lakeview to John and Dola Flynn on Nov. 9, 1917. He resided in Lakeview until his move to the Portland area in 2002.
He served his country in the US Navy during WWII and attended OSU as a young man, where he met Margaret Thorfinnson. They were married in September of 1943.
He was an avid bowler (not very good), accomplished ping pong player, loved to ride snowmobiles with his buddies, and was a long-time member of the BPOE. Millis and his brother Fields owned and operated Flynn’s Furniture for many years in Lakeview.
Millis was a true gentleman, loved by family and friends, the only friends he didn’t have were the ones he hadn’t met yet. He lived a long and meaningful life, and his quick wit, spirit of adventure, and love of family will be missed but not forgotten. He instilled in his children a strong work ethic, personal responsibility, strength of character, and his unique blend of strength, humor and love.
He is survived by son and daughter-in-law Layne and Portia Flynn of Boise, Idaho; daughter Marcie Kiernan of West Linn; brother and sister-in-law Noel and Cornelia Flynn of Lake Oswego; brother Fields Flynn of Lakeview; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
Services for Millis will be conducted at the Presbyterian Church in Lakeview on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011 at 1 p.m.
