John Joseph Conlan

John Joseph Conlan, 63, died on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Oregon Health Sciences University Hospital in Portland after battling a rare blood disease.
John was born on Oct. 11, 1947 to Jack and Nora Conlan in Alturas, Calif. He grew up in Fort Bidwell, Calif. on his family’s ranch. He attended Surprise Valley High School and Christian Brothers High School in Sacramento, Calif. He furthered his education at Sacramento State majoring in business.
John was an enthusiastic athlete and competitor. Loved basketball, tennis, skiing, fishing and all sports. He returned to Fort Bidwell after college to work on the family ranch. He was a member of the Fort Bidwell Volunteer Fire Department.
He was preceded in death by his sister Marietta Glaus of Whitehall, Mont. in 2004.
He is survived by Rebecca Conlan of Medford; son and daughter-in-law Ryan and Alina Conlan of San Francisco, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law Season and Scott Eckardt of Auburn, Calif.; daughter Hillary Conlan of Sonora, Calif.; brothers Edward Conlan of Cathedral City, Calif. and Patrick Conlan of San Francisco, Calif.; sisters Joan Marie Ethen of Woodland, Calif. Nora Lea Krupp of Modesto, Calif. and Anne Marie Carey Boulder, Mont.; grandchildren August and Saige Eckardt of Auburn, Calif.
John was a kind, humorous and friendly man willing to help all. He will be fondly remembered for his storytelling abilities, commitment to the family ranch, and his love for good coffee. He was one of a kind and will be deeply missed.
Services will be July 30, 2011 at noon at St. James Mission in Cedarville, Calif. with burial at the Ft. Bidwell Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to Fort Bidwell Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 296, Ft. Bidwell, Calif. 96112 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
