In an emotional and aggressive game on Honker Court, the Lady Honkers battled against the Corbett Cardinals on Friday, Feb. 28. However, the Honkers were eliminated from the class 3A state playoffs on Friday in a 56-44 Corbett win.
“It was one of those games that was just a real heartbreaker,” commented head coach Brandi Harris. “These girls gave everything they had to give and they showed real heart, they weren’t’ ready for this season to be over.”
Corbett had a five-point lead going into halftime however a 35 point second half gave the Cardinals the lead they needed to clinch the win.
“It was a tough offensive night for us,” said Harris. “We just didn’t make the necessary offensive adjustments early enough.” Amanda Arcularius and Delaney Hall led the Honker team with 12 points apiece for the Honkers. Hall also contributed four assists, four steals, and a blocked shot for the Honkers. Megan Reese had eight rebounds, scored 11 points and she and Rachel Leal both had a 3-point goal and Hall had two.
With only Leal and Madison Mathews graduating this year, the Honker team is excited for next season. Harris said the team is already talking about team camps for next year.
Harris would also like to thank all of those who came out in support of the team. “It was a great crowd and there was a lot of enthusiasm, the support from the community was great.”
The Lady Honkers ended the season with a 14-10 overall record.
