Mental toughness was the name of the game as the Lady Honkers had a learning week, according to Head Coach Brandi Harris. Losing the first game and then winning the second, she said that they gained a great deal from the loss leading them to their win.
The girls traveled to face St. Mary’s, currently sitting on the first seat in the regional league, on Tuesday, Jan. 29. The first time they faced the Crusaders, the Lady Honkers were in good form and while they did not win, they closed the gap, falling by only a handful of points. Last Tuesday’s game was different, finding them losing 61-38.
“It was a really tough loss for us,” Harris said. “We went through our goals and saw what was attainable for us. It was all about mental toughness.”
She mentioned a great deal of aggressiveness to which the girls had trouble adapting. This was not the case on Friday, Feb. 1 as they hosted Bonanza on Honker court.
Playing an extremely physical, closely scored game, the Lady Honkers were able to pull ahead and stay ahead in the second half, winning 65-52.
