Lakeview Swim Team saved their best effort for last, finishing first by a wide margin in the Cascade East District Championship Meet in Burns Aug. 1-3.
Lakeview swam away with the competition, finishing first with 641 points, way ahead of High Desert Swim Team (498), Prineville Swim Team (456), and John Day Swim Team (338). Leading the way was Alex Conley in the 13-14 girls division, who won the Richard G. Bogart II Memorial Trophy for swimming a perfect meet, finishing first overall in all six competitions she entered. Other high point winners from Lakeview included Alex Decker (13-14 boys) and Morgan Ludwig (9-10 boys).
The Bogart Award is named after former Lakeview swimmer Richard Bogart, given to the male and female swimmers who achieve the highest score at the Cascade East meet. A perfect score is attained by winning gold medals in all stroke events and the individual medley. If no perfect score is achieved, it is given to the highest scoring male and female swimmer. The trophy has been awarded every year since Bogart’s untimely death at 18 in 1992 during the summer swim season.
A swim team potluck and post-season awards celebration will be held on Thursday, Aug. 7 at 6 p.m. at the Lakeview pool.
