Lakeview Track and Field hosts meet

Lakeview hosted its annual Lakeview Invitational Track and Field Meet on Saturday, May 4 at 10 a.m. The Honkers were the only 3A team in attendance, while Paisley and Triad Christian were 1A teams at the meet, Bonanza and Chiloquin were the 2A teams present, and Mazama was the only team representing the 4A division.

Lakeview had the home-cooking going, with the girls performing especially well. The girls on the team took first overall. Point totals were not disclosed. Junior Sophia Landau took first place in the 200 and 400 meter races, with run times of 27.72 and 1:03.14, respectively. Landau has been solid all season, with taking third twice in the 200 meter, and a combination of first, second and third in the 400 meter.

Anna Fledderjohann represented Lakeview well in the 800 meter race, winning first place with a run time of 2:38.77. Adding to Lakeview’s first place rankings was senior Liz Helling, who, in the 100 meter Hurdles, barely beating teammate Jenna Davis with a score of 18.27 to Davis’ 18.62.

Lakeview’s girls dominated the strength competitions. Sophomore Miranda Conley was far and away above her runner-up contestants in the Shot Put and Discus, throwing a 34-09 and a 95-01, respectively. In the Shot Put, her next closest competitor was 5 ft. behind, and in the Discus was about 15 ft. behind.

Sophomore Delaney Hall added to her list offirst place wins on Saturday, winning the Javelin with a 120-06, and tying with Tess O’Leary for first place in the Pole Vault with a 7-06.00.

Boys Josh Fledderjohann and Kyle Stanton won the 400 and 800 meter events, respectively, with scores of 55.68 and 2:21.01. Both narrowly edged out their competition, who were within a second of beating them. But it doesn’t matter if it’s by an inch or a mile; a win is a win. Both  Fledderjohann and Stanton were joined by Dalton Alexander and Nick Wiebelhaus in sharing first place in the 4×400 Relay with a combined run time of 4:09.46. Sophomore Pierce Schreder was the last first place winner with an 11-00.00 in the Pole Vault competition.

Lakeview has only one meet left before its District Meet on the weekend of May 17 and 18.
