Lakeview residents Stephen Giblin and Crystal Koontz participated in a Modoc Motorsports event in Cedarville, Calif. on Saturday, June 1.
The start time for the event was 8 a.m., and competition lasted roughly 8 hours.
There were 15 races throughout the day, and roughly 50 competitors. Each race was run three times, with one designated as a practice round, but it was the second and third rounds that counted toward finals results.
Koontz, 7, participated in the 7-8 year-old, 50cc competition. She took first place, winning the event. Koontz started racing motorcycles last year.
She turns 8 in August, and has become a much more aggressive racer, according to her father, Scott Giblin. Koontz still has another year competing in her age group, as she turns 8 in August.
Giblin, 10, competed in the 9-11 year-old, 65cc race. He took third place in the event. Giblin has been racing for over 5 years, starting when he was 4. He’s graduated from 50cc to 65cc.
Giblin’s father has noticed a marked improvement in both Stephen and Crystal.
