Lana Thomas

Lana Thomas, 58, died Wednesday, May 25, 2011, after a battle with cancer.
She was born June 8, 1952, in Lakeview to Boyd and Gaynel Winward.  She lived the majority of her life in Lakeview, but spent her early childhood in El Paso, Texas, Portland, Burien, Wash. and Cottonwood, Calif.  As a young girl, she was a Girl Scout and loved animals and reading.  As an adult, in addition to Lakeview, she also resided in Ashland, Corvallis and Bend for short periods of time.
Lana attended Lakeview High School and also received an associate’s degree from Central Oregon Community College in Bend in June of 1989.
In May of 1969, Lana married Gary Stooksberry, and they had one daughter, Sheri Stooksberry.  Lana and Gary later divorced, but remained good friends, and shared the joy of parenting their daughter, Sheri.
Lana remarried in 1978 to Don Thomas and they later divorced, but also remained friends.
Lana was such a talented human being, and expressed her talents through wood-working and painting.  She added on to and completely remodeled her own house, and was deserving to be so proud of her “masterpiece” home.
She was a devoted mom and she and her daughter were always very close.  In April of 2005, she became the proud grandma of twins Rachel and Jackson, and she adored them and loved showing off their pictures to her friends.  Lana was always surrounded and loved by so many great friends who were like family to her.  She was also an animal lover, and animals loved her.  She will be missed so much by her family, friends and pets.
She loved being in the outdoors, whether it be working in her flower filled yard, or fishing for hours by a nearby lake.  She was blessed with very special road trips with her sisters, Wendi and Adoree’, one of which was a recent Caribbean cruise with Adoree’.  She enjoyed annual summer family gatherings at the Oregon Coast and tried to get to Eugene often to see her daughter and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father Boyd Winward; mother Gaynel Cumings; sister Wendi (Edris) Deppe.
Lana is survived by her daughter Sheri Stooksberry; stepmother Maria Winward of Winter Springs, Fla; brothers Derek Cumings of Portland and Dana Cumings of San Francisco, Calif.; sister and brother-in-law Adoree’ and James Blair of Littleton, Colo.; sister Nikki West; grandchildren Rachel and Jackson, of Eugene; several adored nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews; cousins, and friends, and her very special friend Khris Crittenden.
Lana requested a “Celebration of Life” in lieu of a memorial service or a funeral.  The details of this function will be announced at a later time.  Donations can be made in her honor to OOHS, P.O. Box 206, Lakeview 97630.
