A fundraiser to benefit Lake County Search and Rescue, the Leon Flick Memorial Poker Run and Raffle will take place on Saturday, July 12, at the Willow Creek Campground.
Consisting of both equestrian and ATV loops, $20 buys the first hand and $5 for each additional hand will get each participant in the competition, racing to get the best poker hand for a shot at several prizes.
Participants are required to provide their own horse or ATV, but for those without means of transportation but wanting to participate in the fun can take a ride on a horse-drawn wagon. The horse-drawn wagon provided and operated by Billy Flick for the event was once owned by Leon Flick, for whom the event is named in his honor.
A free youth ATV certification course will be provided starting at 8 a.m., overseen by Sheriff’s deputy Daniel Tague. Pre-registration is required to participate in the certification class. The courses are for the Oregon Motorcycle Riders Association (OMRA) and for the Youth Safety Evaluation Program (YSEP). Any youth age 15 and under is required to be YSEP certified in order to ride off highway vehicles.
Food and drinks will be available during the event, with registration and the start of the poker run beginning at 10 a.m.
Prizes for the best poker hands include gift certificates from KBE, Cabellas and Big R, halters, riding gloves, and a cowboy blanket. Sponsors for the event include KBE, Big R, Messner Custom Haying and Warner Mountain Medical.
