Letha Pugh

Letha Pugh, 94, died on Saturday, May 7, 2011 in Ashley Manor in Burns.
She was born Aug. 24, 1916 to William T. Davis and Laura (Pride) Davis in Mena, Ark. in her great-grandmother’s house.
Letha married Bill Pugh on Sept. 11, 1935 at Talihina, Okla. and to this union were born three children; Hoyt, Shelba and Dennis.  After several trips back and forth between Oregon, Oklahoma and Arkansas, they settled in Lakeview and lived there for more than 30 years.  Upon retirement, they moved to a 75 acre farm near Crane.  Letha loved working in the yard, raising beautiful flowers and large vegetable gardens.  In the winter she made quilts and crocheted afgans.
Visitors were always welcome to their home and made to feel like a part of the family.  Likely, you would be offered a glass of her infamous sweet tea.  She was loved by many and will be missed very much.
Letha was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years; parents; brother; one sister.
Letha is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Hoyt and Verda Pugh of Harper, Dennis and Lynn Pugh of Buhl, Idaho; daughter and son-in-law Shelba and Larry Hammond of Hines; sister Jouetta Davis of Hot Springs, Ark.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a great many “adopted” kids from far and wide who knew her as NANNY.
A graveside service was held Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the Burns Cemetery.
Contributions in Letha Pugh’s memory can be made to Harney County Home Health in care of LaFollette’s Chapel, P.O. Box 488 Burns 97720.
