Building up a successful season, the Lakeview High School boys basketball continued their team growth that earned two victories in the past week, leaving them with a 4-1 league record.
They met Rogue River at home on Tuesday, Jan. 22, where they were able to best the Chieftains with a score of 60-50.
“We played well, though at times we struggled,” said Head Coach Cody Blair.
Saying that the team gave away too many turnovers and didn’t have a lot of energy going into the game, Blair couldn’t identify specific factors that would have dropped the level of play. “There are just going to be those nights where you don’t play very well,” he said.
Still, they came out on top, moving as a team and controlling the game the majority of the time. Not trying to sound superior, Blair said, “Overall we were just a better team. We had more weapons.”
It was a much better story as the Honkers traveled to Illinois Valley to take on the Cougars on Friday, Jan. 25. “That was one of our better games of the year,” Blair said as they defeated the away team 59-44. “It was a long trip, but we had a good game plan.”
