The Lakeview High School ski team traveled to Mount Bachelor to compete in the Oregon School Ski Association’s championships on March 7-8. Both the boys and girls teams competed in slalom and giant slalom events. For the Lakeview girls in slalom, Madisen Schreder took eighth place overall with a combined time of 2:15.990. Behind her was seventh grade Cara Albertson with a combined time of 2:26.580 placing 15th overall in the slalom. Quinn Roseberry placed 13th, Brandi Larson, McKenna Albertson and Emigen Barber also competed for Lakeview. For the giant slalom, Carly Larson placed 16th overall, McKenna Albertson place 18th overall, with Madisen Schreder, Brandi Larson, Emigen Barber, and Quinn Roseberry also competing for the Honkers.
For the boys in the slalom race Nate Odegaard took eighth place overall with a combined time of 1:58.470. Behind him placing 11th overall was Pierce Schreder with a combined time of 2:04.350. Rounding out the top three for the Honkers was Coren Odegaard placing 16th overall. Also competing for Lakeview was Ty Whitman.
For giant slalom Nate Odegaard took sixth place overall with a combined time of 2:13.170. Pierce Schreder took 11th overall with a combined time of 2:19.160, and finishing Lakeview’s top three is Coren Odegaard placing 16th overall.
On Saturday March 8 the Lakeview ski team attending the OSSA championship awards banquet. Each team participating in the banquet picked a costume theme to dress for the banquet. The entire team including the coaches dressed to the nines. The Lakeview ski team was awarded the sportsmanship award for the OSSA in their overall attitude for the season. When asked about the season as a whole, coach Ken Odegaard commented that “it was a good seasons overall, we had a great team and a great group of kids and it was a pleasure to coach them”. Brandi Larson, is the only senior skier, and although she will be greatly missed Odegaard is excited to have most of the team back for next year, hopefully with some new additions.
