A double header for Lakeview High School junior varsity softball at North Lake resulted in a pair of wins on Friday, May 9, but it took a battle to earn them.
LHS cruised over the NLHS Cowgirls in game one of the double header 13-2, but in game two North Lake put up their best fight of the season.
North Lake’s Mattie Wilson started at pitcher for both games, her first ever game experience in the circle. With only one returning pitcher from last season, finding arms has been a season-long struggle for NLHS.
“It was the first time she (Wilson) ever pitched, and she did really well,” said North Lake Asst. Coach Alisa McElhatten. “Mattie stepped in and just did a great job.”
The bats came alive for North Lake, racking up 11 runs against Lakeview, yet just as has been a theme all year the effort wasn’t quite enough, as LHS battled through some big innings to win 15-11.
